Engine stands/cradles for storage
« on: April 21, 2021, 01:24:26 PM »
Some time ago, there was a discussion on engine cradles, and a supplier was suggested that built good ones for Fords.  Does anyone remember who the supplier was, or have a suggestion for new Ford engine cradles for storage, or in shop use?  I need to get a couple of engines off of my engine stands, and would like to be able to move them around on a dolly or cradle with wheels if possible.  Any suggestions besides Jegs or Summit cheapies that are junk.  I already went that route, and wasted money.  Joe-JDC

2x on Stumpys  They are very handy, light, easy to attach and you can put on a bell housing unlike a cradle style..  I use them on everything

That's the one!  I had it marked as a favorite on my old computer, and I could not pull those favorites up to my new one.  Thanks!  Joe-JDC

I just use horrible freight's large wooden furniture dollys. have complete FEs on them and with a couple of 2x4s at the front of the pan rail for clearance, they are quite stable. I even fired a 390 up on one without catastophies.

Well, I have tried three days in a row to contact Stumpys, and I've gotten no response back.  Sent an email, phone calls, no response.  Any other stands you would recommend?   Joe-JDC

Update.  Just got a call back, and shipping quote of $24.00, so I placed an order.  Thanks for all the replies.  Joe-JDC

Personally I like the MotoFeet stands. Simple design, easy to store, relatively inexpensive. And because they don’t attach to the bellhousing you can store an engine and mounted transmission together. I have a good caster store in my area, so I usually just get my own casters for the ones I need to move around. They’re made in Arizona USA, although there are Asian copies of them out there, Jeg’s has been selling those. Motofeet has dealers around the country, you go through a dealer, and some of those do phone orders & ship, I’ve used Lopers in Phoenix.

Here’s a link to the MotoFeet website:

Barry at Survival sells a couple different types of engine cradles, both this one & Motofeet. I don’t know if Brent sells engine cradles?

I mainly use the Stumpy cradles.  They don't attach to the bell, so you can hang a trans on the back as well.  You can also get them with casters.

I use him because he does custom stuff for me.  Sometimes you get into a dry sump application, Aviaid pan, or something totally odd-ball, and he will custom build a cradle or tweak an existing one for me.  Nice guy.

Yes, I ordered the FE-Wide for a Cobra/Aviad oil pan, and SBF-W for Cobra oil pan, Y Block stand.  Easy to talk to after actually getting on the phone.  Joe-JDC

Years back I had Stumpy build a wide stand, and asked him to add the tall feature.  I installed some wheels and the combination works well for me.
