Final Decision Time--410 or Cleveland?
« on: March 28, 2021, 07:45:32 AM »
As a lot of you well know by now, I have 2 rigs I'm building 2 engines for--a 1989 F-150 2wd short bed auto and a 1967 Cougar 4-speed. Engines are 410 FE and 4V 351 Cleveland.
It's now time to make a final decision on which engine to put in which vehicle.
I'm starting to assemble the 410 so, depending on which rig it goes into, will determine the final configuration.

So guys, which vehicle should get which engine? Why would you install it in that vehicle?

I know you guys are probably tired of seeing my posts on this subject. I won't post anymore after this. I promise. I don't have a problem. I can stop any time I want!  ;D

Thanks again.

Cleveland in F150, FE in Cougar.  Transmission and mount fitment for the truck will be easier with the small block

How easy is it to put an FE in the '89 truck?  I know the 351 will go into the Cougar.  Anyway, I'd put the FE in the truck since you'll have the benefit of the torque.  I guess it depends upon how you intend to build each as to whether it works.

410=Cougar
351 c= pickup.
Reverse that if you are going to be pulling a heavy trailer with the pick up.
I run Habit Breakers Inc and if you want to stop your bad car habit just sent me your 2 projects and engines and that will take all these problems off your mind and you will have hours on end to sit and watch all the wonderfull TV programing on the air ways right now. No more worrying about these bad car building habit's.

Thanks Ross.

GerryP- I was kind of leaning that way myself because of the reason you mention--torque. But both of these rigs will be more or less hobby vehicles. Will never be towing or hauling heavy loads in the truck.

gregaba--You're a true friend! lol.

Cleveland in the cougar if you want to go fast
Reminds me of a story from the way back machine.
I was in the semi finals of Bracket 1 at the 1988 Fun Ford Nationals at Carlsbad Raceway near San Diego, California.
Hood up, I was checking the air pressure in my slicks in the staging lanes when a '70 Mustang with a tunnel rammed 351C pulled up beside me. We had about the same dial in.
He got out of his car, took at look at mine and said " Oh good, an FE, I eat FE's for lunch!" I smiled, but did not engage him in any conversation.

We lined up...and he went home hungry.
I had a fun day and won the meet. Sometimes the guy with the dump truck motor gets lucky.
