Pretty cool racer tribute...
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:14:38 PM »
Most of us have heard of Manton pushrods.  Apparently the owner, Terry Manton, fell ill last year at a fairly young age and passed away.  Terry's wife and the crew at Manton decided they wanted to give Terry a fitting memorial, so they made up a special set of hollow pushrods for a fuel motor, and filled them with Terry's ashes.  Last Saturday evening, at the Bakersfield March Meet, Terry's friend Jason Rupert installed the pushrods in his funny car and made a 5 second pass in Terry's honor.  Got to be about the coolest racer memorial I've ever heard of.  RIP, Terry Manton...

Gotta agree! How imaginative of his wife and crew... He must've been quite a guy, and with a passion for Motorsports.  Hopefully his business will live on as a lasting tribute to him.

That is creative and fitting. RIP, Terry. Years ago a dragracer friend of mine passed away and his ashes were spread from the starting line to finish line at Sears Point Raceway. When I cash out my wife threatens to put me in my Hondo flat and set it on fire in the middle of Lake Berryessa... Viking funeral style.

Very cool story Jay.

They do something similar at Bonneville at the land speed races.  You'll hear on the radios occasionally "and riding along on his/her final pass on car 123 is _______".  I didn't really catch on to this for a few years until I asked someone about it.  They pack the ashes in the parachutes so they are interned at the Mecca of Speed.

I want to be burned on the burn pile at the farm with some brush, a couple tractor tires and gear/drain oil from the last round or oil changes.  You may think I am kidding but I am serious. Don't waist any money on me, I won't care when I am gone.

I'm probably going to have to take the express elevator down,
and I want a 357 Mag and a $100 bill in my pockets.
I'm shooting or buying my way in.   ::)
