I'm sad to see this happening to Ebay. I've bought a lot from the site, since 2007. But, do vote with your acceptance of what they are doing. I saw yesterday that EagleSpecialty took all there stuff off. I wondered why, now I know.

Regarding Marketplace, I'm starting to dislike them (although that's where I found my '54, 400 mi away), no matter my search, I'm getting women's clothes and a bunch of other crap. It doesn't matter if you specifically ask for Ford stuff, you give you everything and unrelated stuff. They track you, too. If I search for something on Craigslist, when I open MP, I get that type stuff, before a search and they are trowing all kinds of pro type sellers at you, with unrealistic shipping (way to low).

The one excellent thing about Ebay, is they guaranty your purchase and return shipping so, I'm comfortable with buying there. If a deal falls through, any place else, your on your own.

I first started selling on eBay in 1999. I had not done much selling for many years until last fall. I decided since I had not been able to sell at any swap meets for the last year I would clean out some of my junk. It worked like it use to with my payments going to my Paypal  account in real time. I then got my first invoice for the sold items a nd it was 10%, I was shocked to say the least. Bu wanted to cleanout a bunch of the old junk.
Then came the notice that they were changing the payment end of things. Now it takes a couple days to receive my money and the fees ae removed when distributed to my bank. I wonder how the buyers would feel if I started waiting for the money to be in my hands before I ship? I hate the higher fees and the delays in receiving my money. But at the moment I don't see a viable alternative to Feebay. I have over the  years looked at some other auction sites, including Craig's list. But none have had the fanatical returns that eBay has. But when my inventory gets down to a manageable level I will not be rushing back.
I use the same user name there that I do here.

I'm not a Facebooker, do they charge fees? In lurking on there I see sellers get their phone numbers blanked out if they try to bypass FB messaging.

There does seem to be a whiff of greed with ebay these days. As an example, I have an email watch for '60 Starliner used parts. What do I get? Key fobs, model cars, necker knobs, chevy parts, old oil cans and parts misrepresented as fitting a Starliner. Some search engine!
Agree 100%! About 10-15 years ago, I was constantly buying bits & pieces from EBay, mostly for my 1959 Meteor (Canadian Ford), most was the same as a 59 Custom 300, but with a different grill, trim and ornamentation, and I was able to find parts from every corner of North America for it, but I have not bought anything from Ebay in several years. And now, I rarely even look for anything on EBay, as it`s simply too frustrating. When I type in "1959 Meteor" in the Search box, and I am bombarded by thousands of generic items, like tire valve stem caps, light bulbs, screws, stickers, and other such trinkets, I just don`t feel like sifting thru dozens of pages of "fluff", just to hopefully find one or two things that were actually relevant to my car. Plus once EBay mandated using paypal, and prevented negative feedback , regardless if you got badly ripped off, killed my interest in dealing with EBay.

One thing that "was" nice on Marketplace was that you could click and see who you were dealing with, unlike craigs. That feature seems to be going away

Ebay seemed to start caterin to buyers over sellers a while back  ....... sellers are the ones with the money ....

Now ebay wants my social security number and a bank account number before I can be paid

I have started sellin on facebook for sale forums but there are more than few that will tell you they want your item

Then will disappear or tell you they can find it cheaper elsewhere

Have only had 2 bad transactions here or on the old forum

Me too !! They hate my political viewpoint  , have 26 more days of suspension  ;D but even suspended it does let me function in the market place
I only buy ebay if it's something I can't find else where , been using it on classic cars with hard parts to find for the shop here lately

Trying real hard to not get political on this forum...Because Jay asked nicely, but this subject is important and worth talking about.
If you respond do your level best to keep it non-political.

There are many reasons I do not use Facebook, but one of the major reasons is their direct censorship of things they don't "allow"...which is directly political in scope.
Facebook Marketplace seems like a pretty good place to buy and sell items, but in doing so you foster, as well as agree with via use, the bias, censorship, and political speech agenda they openly apply.

YES!!! I wholeheartedly agreee! I refuse to use their dis-services, and have my web browser equipped with additions to block all google scripts (and others I select) that run in the background, trackers, amaon, youtube, and all those other "big tech" companies that place profits over principles (principles of a free society, that is).An added benefit is I don't get barraged with ads. These companies are reprehensible in my opinion.

So circling back the the original post - ebay selling fees are high, and have gone up consistently.  Selling on Amazon is expensive and restrictive.  Facebook Marketplace can work for local sales, but isn't very effective for out of area sales.  Craigslist has faded to essentially non-relevance.  If someone has a suggestion for an alternative selling venue, please share.

Ebay, Amazon, Facebook are all for-profit companies, and in a capitalistic economy, they have no responsibility to be principled or fair if it impedes the profits to shareholders.  This is not new with tech companies.
