What are you guys doing for new engine oil dipstick and tube? I have a 67 390 going in a 55 Ford f100 and the original dipstick tube is garbage.

Assuming you are using a front sump, many places sell the Scot Drake CJ/GT chrome dipstick and handle.  Even Summit sells them.  Nice pieces decent price

If rear sump, need to get creative.  I have made a tube before and grabbed a dipstick out of a van and cut it down to fit

after installing a new dip stick tube i would mark the stick after filling with oil so you will know where the full mark should be.i used 6 quarts, then scratched a line across my new dip stick.

I used Scott Drake chrome dip stick C7OE-6750-A and C7OZ-6754-A, 67-70 BB painted dipstick tube. To make the dipstick tube fit into the hole in the skirt of my '68 stock 390 cylinder block, I found that some work with a flat file was necessary to reduce the O.D. of the dipstick tube a little bit to create a sliding fit. This was five years ago and maybe the quality control on the tube has improved or maybe there was a variance in the diameter of the drilled hole in the block....it fits now. Just because it is new does not mean it is correct.   Clark

On a stock replacement 5qt pan would you run 5qts or 6qts? I've heard both ways.

i use 6 and i will tell you why.i watched my oil pressure gauge fluctuate while accelerating hard with 5 quarts in it.i put in a extra quart-6 and the fluctuation stopped.that was good enough for me.

Same - the chrome aftermarket dipsticks for the 351Cs are wrong and the tubes don't seat in the block correctly.  So best to check the fit in the engine, then fill, run, let it set and check the mark, re-mark with punch or chisel as required.
