FE in a 72 Torino
« on: December 30, 2020, 02:24:23 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I've got a 482 FE, and I'm looking for a car to put it in.  I've always liked the 72 Torino fastbacks, and I'm wondering how much of a hassle it would be to put an FE into one.  I think the last year where FEs were an option was in 71, and then the body style changed in 72.  Any thoughts or ideas on this?
Thanks,
Dan

FYI - Last FE in a mid-size was '69. '70-'71 big block was 429.

It seems kind of odd but easy to do. I sold a guy some parts for a 428 and he had it in a 72 Ranchero.  I later bought the car off him and parted it, that is the 428 in my ramp truck. Thing had factory air shocks and interval wipers too.

Anyways, the mounts were 302 smallblock/ 351 Cleveland ones with Mustang 390 engine brackets and rubbers. It had headers on it that looked to be 65-67 Galaxie ones.

The 72 Torino went to a shorter wheelbase version of the Galaxie/LTD full size perimeter frame with coil spring rear. You should be able to use the same insulators and frame perches the FE Galaxie uses, the 429 Torino uses the same insulators and frame perches as the 429 Galaxie. Most of the chassis is basically the same.
