Any idea how these torque ratings are determined? I would have to think that 400 ft-lbs of torque launching at 5000 RPM on slicks would stress a transmission more than rolling on the throttle at, say 3000 RPM at 30 MPH with street tires, with 600 ft-lbs.Anybody know what a small shaft as well as a big shaft Toploader 4 speed would be rated at? I have talked to a few people with various Tremec 5 & 6 speed transmissions that said they did not like to be shifted at WOT power shifts, even at only 5500-6000 RPM. Has that been adressed? I would consider swapping the wide ratio Toploader in my 59 some modern style OD transmission, but not really interested if you have baby it.

From what I gathered many years ago when the TKO 600 came out, they are put on a dyno and a continuous amount of torque is applied to them.  It's not a peak rating, it's a continuous loading.

As we've discussed up above, this new transmission should address the higher rpm shifting issues.

I have a TKO 600 and that's been my issue.  My Comet is a BP 482 FE, 630tq, 650hp. WOT shifts @ 55-6000 RPM are always an adventure. Plus, it HATES going into reverse.  Doesn't matter what I do, it usually grinds.  I was looking at the G-Force aftermarket gear kit for the T-5; my brother has an older T-5 that he would donate.  They advertise that gear set as being good for 1000 HP.  Any thoughts or opinions of that versus this new TKK?
Thanks,
Dan

The gear kit may hold some horsepower.....a stock T5 case will explode like a grenade.

The T5 is a decent transmission for a small block street car, I ran one for years in my old high 12 second 302 street/strip Fairmont, but the basic design is just too small to stand up behind a healthy big block. Maybe if you only cruise around, but not if you want to run it hard at all. The gear teeth are tiny, and as Brent mentioned, the factory cases are pretty flimsy. I just wish somebody made a transmission that was strong and easy to powershift at WOT, but with an extra gear for overdrive.

G Force also makes an inproved case too for the T5

I found this graphic online comparing the size of the TKX vs T5 and TKO.  Are there any other dimensional drawings floating around out there?  If small enough, I'll ditch my TKO and get the smaller case so I don't have to chop my floor up so badly.

I ordered a unit today from MDL.  It will be a February delivery with the appropriate length input, disc and mounting hardware.
