engine cooler size?
« on: February 11, 2013, 09:19:28 PM »
OK here is what I got, a 445 cube Fe 390 with a hot roller cam, no juice and normally asp erated. I am running E85 which inherently runs cooler and synthetic oil which runs cooler still. I will be running 2" primary headers with a good free flowing exhaust and a 19/30 afco two core radiator. Also one of Jay's 55 gph CSR pump setups. With all that considered how big of an engine oil cooler should I run with a thermostat installed? Thanks guys .....Jon

How big is the oil pan and capacity?
How much extended long distance driving?
I've run a stock pan and 7 quarts for years at long distance highway and never really felt the need for
a oiler cooler. I do put a piece of cardboard in front of the rad on cool days because I have to much cooling. lol
On the big engine I will need an oil heater.  ::)
You don't want the oil too cool or it will not cook off the moisture and cause snot to build up in the valve area.

Got an 8 quart Moroso pan and want to add a 180 stat to the cooler. I am building it for road race and highway use also, when I attend races, cruises and shows it will be driven there. It does get up to 100 degrees here and traffic stops to a crawl frequently toward Chicago.
