Any differences in '61 T-Bird oil pans?
« on: September 12, 2020, 09:09:07 AM »
They look similar to other stock front sump pans, but just making sure before I pull the trigger on a new replacement pan for a '61 390 build.

Any ideas on this one?  I don't have any other factory pans in here at the moment and I'm afraid there's going to be some subtle detail that will make another factory pan a deal breaker.

Not a 1961 T-Bird pan but I do know the 59 T-Bird pan is more shallow in the rear. The later pans interfere with the steering linkage. I've got one of the shallow pans and I'll check the difference. Quite sure the 58 Edsel pan is shallow as well, I'll also check that one.

My 1960-64 MPC (printed 1969) lists

60-64 Bird c6oz-6675-a
60-64 Ford c6az-6675-a

Obviously replacement numbers but the point is theyre NOT the same. What's different? Don't know.

My 1963 MPC only iists parts for A=Ford, not S=Bird.

The big Ford pan back then was almost a quart deeper than the later "unibody" pan, and totally unbaffled - just a crank scraper that hits with a longer crank, BTDT. This big deep pan later became the truck pan.

Was there a deep Bird pan too that was different? Apparently but I don't know the differences.

And it looks like 1958-59 had a different pan again.

The Unibody pan are shallower, seems the big Gal used them too though slight differences.

Isn't a c6oz-6675-a the CJ pan?

Well.I have a 64 390 t bird pan and a 63 gal 352 pan, both in use so I can't see the inside, but the t bird pan is 1/2 " shallower than the 63 and  the t bird has the drain plug on the left side rear  as opposed to the 63 which is in the center rear. As for a 61 I don't know.
