Gonkulator
« on: September 03, 2020, 01:22:01 PM »
Hi werby
As i said my 390 +060, 10.47-1, zero deck 040 sguisch Cleaned up C4 heads with CJ valves
Comp cam S282, Portmatched Streetmaster with enlarged plenum, Factory shorty castiron headers
750 Holley 2.5 exhaust with straight throug mufflers just before the bumper
would it benefit from a performer rpm down low?

I know the 2,80 isch gearing kills acceleration but i have a long distance from everything
As it is now on dry road it just bark the tires and take of. If wet or sand on the asphalt it spin the
tires to the cows come home
Im thinking about building another gearset to have to swap in when i "need" it 3,50,3,73,3,90-1 or?

Allso have the parts and a machined block to build a 447 what would it make with the same set up
I gues it would kill the FMX or the Factory T10 or the SB RUG i have
So a FE C6 or big rug i guess is the alternativ both difficult to find in Sweden nowadays

Heo,
Well ok so far the Gonkulator is saying on the engine:

Torq 320 at 2000
Torq 427 at 3800
Powr 406 at 5600

With an Ed RPM intake instead:
Torq 336 at 2000 +16
Torq 436 at 3800   +9
Powr 408 at 5500  +2
Some improvement but probably not worth it unless you find one cheap.

So I left the Streetmaster on there and just stroked it to 447cid, same compression:
Torq 374 at 2000 +54
Torq 475 at 3700 +48
Powr 422 at 5400 +16
You don't gain much top end but a bunch of low end and midrange.

Next I will try to Gonkulate what all this does in the car.

I didn't realize you were overseas re shipping a C6.
I know there are parts to make the MX/FMX rugged enough - might cost more but way cheaper to get the parts to where you are. The MX/FMX actually draws less power than the C6, it just needs some beefing.

OK here is the car, I assumed 4150 lb curb and 4350 lb with driver.
With the 398cid streetmaster, 2.80 gears
2.50 60ft
6.74 330ft
9.96 at 76.5  1/8 mile
15.05 at 97.9 1/4 mile
7.01 0-60mph

And with the Ed RPM intake instead:
2.45
6.63
9.82 at 77.1
14.87 at 98.7
6.80 0-60m

With the Streetmaster & 447cid:
2.37
6.38
9.51 at 78.5
14.46 at 100.6
6.31 0-60m
Quite a bit faster. This is with a 2.80 open rear.
So, what would more gear do?

With a 3.00 gear
2.29
6.20
9.32 at 79.3
14.22 at 100.7
6.00 0-60m
A worthy change. We run a 3.00 gear in our highway 64 XL, revs are ok on the freeway.
Still a tall gear but way better than that 2.80.

With a 3.25 gear
2.24
6.07
9.16 at 80.0
14.06 at 100.3
5.85 0-60m
I think if you wanted more gear this is about where I'd stop.

Instead, I Gonkulated a 2400 stall converter, assuming yours now is about 1900 stall.
That way with the 3.25 gear, you're still above stall speed cruising the freeway.
2.06
5.80
8.87 at 80.4
13.75 at 100.5
5.48 0-60m
That is quite a kick.
I'd do that 447 stroker, 3.25 gear, and a 2400 stall in the beefed MX/FMX trans.
Or just have fun as is!

Thanks Werby much appreciated. I know the previous owner that swapped from
manual to auto trans in the 80s and built the trans don't remember if he beefed
it up or just a stock rebuild. I have to ask him it have worked flawless so far.
Who sell parts to beef up a C O M trans Is it the same internals as a FMX? and where to get a converter.?
We had a few good autotrans guys in Sweden that built converters and transmissions for just abut anything
but they seems extinct today if you don't have GM trans

And what happes if we throw in a set of TFS heads?

Meaningles trivia the trans is from a 64 Galaxie, Svante Worrsjö that was driving a Lotus Cortina for Ford
had to trailer the Cortina to the tracks. That car was used in a heist in the 70s,(with a new owner) They ripped the whole machine
where you put the notes when you filled up gas after closingtime from its foundation, with that Galaxie and threw it in the trunk  :o
Got caught 20 min later ;D ;D That owner showed up at my place last year with a nice 67 Mustang and wanted me to rebuild
the 289 in it. He told the true story about it that i only heard rumors about

Heo  Here is your guy for old Ford transmissions  Ask for Jay... Stall converter is not hard to find..  My friend runs an FMX behind his blown 312 that runs in the 12s in a 3900 lb car  The main difference from a cruise o matic is the valve bodies.. the FMX has a different shift pattern.
