'63 Galaxie SOHC Installation
« on: September 02, 2020, 10:25:46 PM »
My dad and I were BSing tonight and got to talking about potential modifications necessary to make a SOHC fit into a '63. I just did some internet searching and can't really find anyone that has chronicled the installation. Is this a pretty straightforward deal? Any steering components or suspension components that require some hacking?

I have a SOHC in my ‘63 Galaxie, it pretty much dropped straight in. I had a set of Mad Dog 2” primary headers on the 406 in the car, I just modified these headers to suit the SOHC exhaust ports. Only other big job was to fit a radiator fill neck and cap to the radiator, as I didn’t use the expansion tank. Otherwise, it fit like it was meant to be there.

Mike: Lots of pictures out there of John V's 61. Not sure how close the 61 and 63 were on Body-Frame measurements
Also Henreynephew (Randy M) has "Heavy Duty" that's if I remember correctly a 62 with a SOHC.  Randy is friends with John.
