1969 vs 1970 Mustang Fuel Tank Question

I just installed a 1970 fuel tank with a rear sump fab'd in into a 1969 Mach 1.  When I went to reinstall the fuel filler neck, it appeared to be at the correct angle, but off by about 1.5" or so axis-to-axis.  Before I chop and fabricate a new fuel filler neck, I'm curious if the 1970 Mustangs had a slightly different neck that I can just purchase and swap in.

National Parts Depot has a filler neck for making that swap.  I've seen it on their web site before, but I wasn't able to find it just now.  I'd give them a call...

I've done that swap in a 69 Cougar using a 70 tank. I don't recall there being any fitment issues. Are you sure your tail light panel or filler neck has never been tweeked? Maybe the Mustang and the Cougar are different there? I thought those pieces would be the same.

The 69 tailpanel bows inward and the 70s bows outward while the cougar have

The 70 tank is slightly taller than the 69 tank, but the fuel neck is the same angle.  I basically need to extend the pipe right after the flange and then cut the excess from the bottom for the pipes to line up. 

I did look into the NPD/CJPP adapter, but it looks like it is a different angle and unfortunately not in stock anywhere. 
The taillight panel isn't tweaked or damaged, as far as I can tell.  The body and frame on this car are pristine.

Yeah, that's definitely it.  Didn't anticipate for the 22gal when I bought the sump tank.  Definitely not complaining, the 2 extra gallons will be my "reserve" with the 69 sending unit.  I dont anticipate this new engine getting good gas mileage...  If I get 12, I'll be happy. 

I'm going to chop this thing up and re-weld it.
