Maximum oil pressure and temperature?????

I have a fresh tight engine and a TRW high volume pump. Also through pushrod oiling, thread in galley plugs and a 6500 Rpm ceiling. How much oil pressure will I see and what should my oil temp range be? I am installing a thermostatically controlled cooler and not sure what open and close set points to go with? I will be running Royal Purple HPS 10w40 synthetic oil. Thanks again guys

If the TRW is like the melling HP pump, 80psi at operating rpm and around 30 at idle is what you'd see.  Temp wise, no clue, someone else will know.  You do know to not use that synthetic oil on break-in, right?   ;)

Yes I have a case of break in specific oil already, the pump is the Melling high volume version as you estimated.

Oil temperatures will run high on a new engine, especially if you are breaking it in at a higher speed.  It wouldn't surprise me to see as high as 240 degrees.  I think if you see more than 250 I'd be concerned.  After break-in, during normal operation oil temps will usually run about 10-20 degrees warmer than the water temperature, so they will depend to some extent on your thermostat.

Thanks Jay, I was not sure how much hotter the target temp would be on my oil cooler stat so I'll set my target the same as my coolant temp. I was thinking 190 open 170 closed on the coolant to keep good burn on the E85 and set my fans the same?

Not to hijack this, but this is an E85 motor?  Killer.  What compression ratio/heads are you using?

11:5-1 compression with Edelbrock 60058 heads, back cut swirl polish stainless valves and 350 lb bee hive springs. Custom hydraulic roller cam 698/ 690 lift. 445 cube with steel crank and h beam rods. Going with through push rod.oiling with T&D race rockers. Induction is two Edelbrock 750 carbs converted by Rob Mix atop an Edelbrock 7505 dual quad air gap intake. I got a Milodin kick out 8 quart pan also. That is as far as I have gotten, needs assembly, port work and some milling to the heads before it all goes together. I do have the balancer, that is an an ATI three ring adjustable 7" and all the gaskets also, just saving for the rockers now.

Sounds like a great setup.  The next FE I build is going to be on E85 as well.  Keep us posted on how it works out.  Do you plan to dyno it?

I intend to take it to Borowski racing to have the heads milled .040 and the stud mounts milled for the T&D race rockers. Then have the intake fitted to the block and heads for alignment along with a medium race port and polish on all. Then a break in and tune on the dyno, I am a little concerned about getting everything in tune right off for the break in process with everything tight and the variables involved with a fuel I have little experience with.
