Several people were wondering if it would ever be available as a crate engine. Apparently Ford heard the masses and responded quickly....

I have been waiting for this for our '97 F350. The 460 in it now is a total gas hog....like 6 mpg gas hog, and no power to give it an excuse for sucking down so much gas.

Now the question.....what transmission bolts behind that thing?

Price tag isn't terrible at all.

No adapters yet that I know of, but I'd venture to say that aftermarket suppliers will be getting on it shortly.

Awesome to hear, and price isn't insane, figure street price should be lower.  I know I had a lot more than that in a 408w and it didn't have the crossbolt CG block.

I posted in another thread, they're seeing right at 400cfm from ported heads, insane.  I'll have to go back and read how good the rods are, if they're powdered metal or did they actually put forged rods in them.

Curious if it has provisions for a pilot bearing of any sort, love to put something like this in from of a NV4500 and make a great old tow rig with better mileage and reliability.

It uses the same bell housing as the Mod motors and Coyotes.

I guess it's neat.  ::) Still a bunch cheaper to build a big 460.

I drive one every day, would love to stick one in the dragster LOL.  In a 6500+ lb 22' long F-350 DRW using Eco mode I average 12 over the last 250 miles and that includes two 30 mile pulls with 12500 lbs on the back.  Gets around 7~7.5 pulling out here depending.  That's a 7.5' tall 34' trailer that has the max frontal area listed in the tow ratings.  Easy get 12.5 plus on the highway on a trip.  IF we could go anywhere, dammit.

Assume you can get it for $7k, you get a brand new CG 6 bolt block, steel crank, aluminum heads, roller cam, EFI ready that makes 505hp/515ft lbs with headers and tune.  Then consider it's OEM quality, modern gaskets, and assumably gets better mileage than any older platform that's similar displacement.

Big question will be if Ford creates a standalone ECM setup like they do for the Coyotes, which would run an extra $1200 or so.

I think the price is really reasonable.  But it's still not going to look right in an FE car.  I don't like mod motors in early Mustangs, and this would be the same kind of deal.  But maybe with a revised exhaust at least you wouldn't have to cut the shock towers...

Hey, Chris! Your dragster would go much, much faster with this Ford offering!
