That is a nice looking start.  Looks nothing like my 65 Comet,  My Cougar is in the same state of repair, except mine was wrecked on the right side.  Have the core support and right front battery apron removed. Stripping paint then sand primer repeat.  Good luck with the build. Clifford

Yeah mine is bashed on the left front and needs floors. The right rear quarter is rotted but I have a new one for it already. Can't find a care support anywhere so still debating on what to do with that.

Jon, that Comet core support looks a lot like a Fairlane... Have you tried that avenue?  even a 4-door parts car would probably suffice.

Finding Fair lane / Comet stiff around here is tough. The salt consumes everything. The ones I do find are already smashed like mine , four wheel abs stops much faster than drums.

Just waiting on pan gasket and rear main seal and the engine gets assembled it is so close but with everything else to be done yet so far. But I'll have a pretty engine to look at to motivate me.

If your not to fussy on year and model, you can go up to 69ish? I think, for the piece your missing.
It does not look that bad.
I've seen a lot worse come back to life.
Nothing a bit of tin and a mig can't fix.

The other missing side is completely crumpled, I had to replace every part on that drivers corner the rest I can work with. Luckily the fender only slid a little closer to the door but no damage.

Since you going to modifie the car so much
make a new one out of 1inch squaretube
and aluminium and you can mount a bigger
radiator. And make it a bolt in so you can
remove it easy for quicker engine swap
if you make it so you can unbolt it with
the fenders still on the car
Then you just unbolt the fenders in the rear
quick conection to lights/turn signal
radiatorhoses and a couple bolts at the core suport
If you understand what im trying to explain
not easy with my bad english

Seems like plain English to me mine must be bad too LOL. I have been thinking the same deal. Just haven't figured the hood latch out yet.Bear Claw makes one but not sure how I would mount it and I really do not want to pin the hood but it may come to that for safety.

I am thinking two latches like these would work, one on each side where the inner fender meets the core support like a corvette but in front. I would have to fabricate a release also to actuate both emergency catches at once.

Comet parts, even right after they were made, brand new ('66-'67) were hard to get in the late 60's and early 70's, even from Mercury dealers. Could never figure out exactly why but it must have been the relatively low production numbers compared to the Mustang series. Today, good luck I say!

Yeah at this point with a lack of any interior or body parts available it is gonna be custom all the way. I have very good fabrication skills and lots of ideas already in mind. The interior I am thinking black with a burl wood dash cover, door panel inserts and armrests. The upholstery I'll match to my race seats. Also I was thinking of a custom console for my gauges and radio. The dash panel I was thinking prism aluminum overlay like an 80s trans am. Seats will be black kirkey drag/ road race full containment with leg, shoulder, and head restrains for high g cornering. Other than that cage and 6 point harness wrapping things up.
