Like Jay said, the original Ford Tunnel Wedge has a stamped steel cover plate with stiffening ridges, and the original screws were drilled & safety wired. Below is a picture of my original Ford Tunnel Wedge. Also as noted & pictured in Jay’s book, there was a difference in shape between the original Ford and the Dove copy at the water passage. The original Ford has a distinct shape that matches some gaskets, with the lowest point at the side, the Dove copy Jay tested had a different water passage shape that was lower in the middle, which allowed it to leak out the weep slot some intake gaskets have. I don’t know if all Dove Tunnel Wedge intakes had that water passage shape though, or it was a casting fluke of his. I have a picture below of the original Ford Tunnel Wedge water passage shape. Also, Jay tested all the intakes in the book for volume and the results are listed in the book, the Dove Tunnel Wedge has a much larger volume than the original Ford intake, so theoretically you could test the intake for volume and see which it’s closer to.
