flywheels?
« on: January 16, 2013, 04:03:16 PM »
I am thinking of using an 18lb aluminum flywheel with a duel disk 10" McLeod clutch. First thing I found at closer study is the Mcload flywheel states that it will fit a 11" or12" clutch, does this mean the 10" will not land on the insert? Another question is will this adversely affect driveability on the street or on a road race track to lighten my rotating mass by 10 lbs? I am after the quicker acceleration that the aluminum part offers.

I would call McCleod on that.  If that flywheel won't fit, they must make one that will have an insert to match up with the dual disc clutch; they do a lot of custom stuff.

I have run aluminum flywheels on the street with no issues, except that the clutch can be a little trickier to engage because you don't have the inertia of the steel flywheel keeping the engine spinning.  But the performance benefit outweighs this minor issue, in my opinion.

That's what I'll do I am sure they would have something in aluminum to fit their RST clutch.
