One other note, DW registration is open and the new rules posted. You may have an AF/x car sitting in the Garage already, see the new class. :o

Bill, thanks for the comments.  I did briefly consider a cowl type scoop on the car, but I'm actually not a big fan of that scoop style just from an appearance standpoint.  I think I will stay on the track I'm on now and see where it goes.  Hopefully not off into the ditch  ;D

I registered for DW'11 today, but the new Drag Week rules have me pretty concerned.  My '69 Shelby clone won't fit into the '67 and earlier AFX class, and the front strut setup may push me out of Modified and into Unlimited.  I emailed RK and DF; we'll see what they have to say...

Good to see your keeping the humor intacht:  "The other reason is that the local police will be much more drawn to a car with a big hunk of the motor hanging out of the hood than one with just a body colored scoop visible."

Had to chuckle on how funny it sounds for a guy driving a single diget ET 1/4 mile race car on the street to be concerned about part of the motors induction system peering through the hood. As if the noise, exhaust wheels/tires wont hint of what lurks inside - sort of like a Playboy Bunny in a one piece bathing suit so no one notices. I mean really if a cop is enough of a dick to write you a ticket for some rinky dink stuff when you have a machine that can carry the wheels.......
I agree on the scoops Coke bottle is busy... That scoop (obviously period correct because that was when it was installed)) on RWJs Tunnel Port Shelby might give you ideas.

Thanks for those pictures, BB, I haven't seen that scoop before.  I really doesn't look too bad on there.  Its not quite what I'm looking for, but if I can't get my custom one to work, one like that would be a good alternative.

I too, think the scoop will look good if you can make it a constant width from the front all the way to the back.

Or if that doesn't work, how about a slightly trapezoid shape, slightly wider in the front at the opening, and slightly narrower at the rear, with straight sides?

Your intake is gorgeous, but I can understand the desire to cover it up.

just thinking,

paulie

Jay, that scoop on the Shelby in link above is a taller version of the Boss 429 scoop. Similar scoops appeared around that time on many early Ford Pro-stock cars of the period, Don Nicholson's Maverick for example, and Harwood still lists one in the older catalog I have.
