Mustangs Unlimited and Dallas Mustang
« on: March 09, 2020, 07:12:44 PM »
I guess I'm late to the party I was never invited to, but I just found out Mustangs Unlimited and Dallas Mustang closed a few months ago.  Anybody know what happened?  I used to visit their Manchester CT location when I lived back up that way.  God knows how many of their quarterly catalogs I used to hoard.  From what I understand they did a 50-60% off liquidation in the late Fall and then that was that...

I used Dallas Mustang a few times about 12 years ago when they had Roush S3 goodies at a price that couldn't be beat.  The owner at the time helped me big time, thought he was a stand up guy.

*edit*  Dug up the DM story.  Rumors were that they got bought out and new owners closed it, but there are a few posts from employees saying it was pure bankruptcy.  Couldn't compete with Summit.  Still not sure on MU.

Ouch on MU! See below:

Had bought lots of '70 Stang parts from them yet that pretty much stopped in the late 90's as the car, running since late '94,  was 100% finished. Sad as they were a great vendor.

I live in CT not too far from MU.  I hated going there because every time I bought a big ticket item the boxes were open.  It's like someone sorted through everything and the average Joe customer (me) got the inferior products.  I didn't like that.

I was searching for SS fender bolts earlier today, Google said MU had 'em, clicked the link and got redirected to that same page.  I was sort of stunned for a moment.  I wouldn't be as much of a Mustang fanatic or auto enthusiast if it hadn't been for a college friend of mine handing me a Mustangs Unlimited catalog when he saw me driving a '90 LX.

So did I- Northeast Corner.  I encountered that with a 6" cowl hood I bought back in 2009, but everything else seemed ok.  Just slow to ship if I didn't feel like making the drive to Manchester.

Dang! I guess that means I won't get the Blue Thunder FE blower manifold I have had on back order for the last 7 years from Mustangs Unlimited.

Ouch!  Tell me they don't still have your money...

The only time I dealt with a situation like that was with a crummy little gremlin who lives in Florida who was scamming people on forums with his fake "Mustang shop."  He had a website, promised to beat anyone's prices, looked legit at first glance.  He did just enough legitimate sales to have positive feedback here and there so a quick search would yield a little confidence.  Took me the better part of a year to track down the guy after he cancelled his burner number, got most of my money back.  That was around 13 years ago now.

There's more classic Mustang retailers than there are classic Mustangs to restore.  The big suppliers have gone to multiple platforms (NPD, CJ Pony Parts) or smaller retailers have been bought out by larger companies.

There are still little guys who only sell Mustangs parts and know what they are talking about: Harris, Virginia, Kentucky, Branda.

I was not charged anything. They were going bill me when it shipped out. About every two years or so they would send me an email to see if I still wanted it and if I wanted to still leave in it backorder status. If I would have had to put money up front I doubt I would have back ordered it.

Thompson, about 2 miles from the Speedway.

Frustrating, but at least you still have your money.

Ahh, Woodstock!  We were practically neighbors!
