69 Fairlane Cobra/Talladega oil cooler line specs?
« on: February 27, 2020, 08:34:29 AM »
I am building a 69 Fairlane Cobra formal roof clone car, and will be using the SCJ oil cooler assy. I am going to have a local company make me the oil cooler lines. I am very aware that they will not match originals, just looking to make a decent set of functional and less expensive lines as opposed to the extremely rare and very expensive originals. All that I really need are the length specs for each line. Can someone help me out with that info? Thx, Brian

My R code Mustang's lengths are probably different, so can't help you there, but are they planning on bending some metal tubing for the cooler ends? I ask because, coming off the cooler, it's a fairly tight turn to get through the radiator core support, and normal hose could get cut easily there, as well as the stress that would be placed on the fittings from the tight bend. A good hose company should be able to make up some tubing with bends to work in that spot.

Thanks for the response! Yes, the lines between Mustang and Fairlane are quite a bit different. The lines go through two side by side 1 1/2 holes just below the drivers headlight support and have grommets. Honestly, with the correct style line, I am less concerned about that than I am the connection at the backside of oil filter adaptor. Ford used a long curved fitting from the nut end to the compression end to snake in between the block and filter/adaptor. But, I'll continue to work on it till I get something figured out that does work. I just really need the line length specs as a starting point. Thanks again!

Brian,

The line that is the top oil cooler line that goes to the front of the oil filter adaptor is 30 1/4"

Line from the bottom of the cooler to the rear of oil filter adaptor is 38 1/4"

The measurements are from end of line to end of line including the fittings.

Hope this helps you!!!

Any question let me know...…                      John

Hey John, I need a couple more oil cooler line spec's if you can?

1. At the rear of the oil filter adaptor, long curved metal line. Can I get the drop length from the adaptor to the first 90 degree bend? Looks like around 3 inches to me? Then, the length of the curved tube from that backside 90 degree bend to the line side of the crimp. Looks like about 8 inches in picture on that part?

2. The length of the 90 degree fitting at the top of oil cooler. From line side of nut to line side of crimp?

The currently available crimp fittings are much shorter than what Ford used, and I have to make up that distance in line/hose. So, using the overall numbers you gave you me prior to this, the original fitting lengths will give me the new overall line length when used with the new crimp fittings. Hopefully that makes sense?

Thanks so much!

Yes,just give me a little time. I have to move the car so I can get a jack under it. My garage is the typical 20 lbs of stuff in a 10 lb bag. :)
