Mine has the hole through one of the bushing halves? In all of the rockers.

Doug,
I have an old set and new set of FE Harland Sharp rockers. Although the the groove is larger on the newer the hole is in the groove on both sets. I tried to post pictures but the site won’t accept them. I can send them directly to you if you want.

I've had and used a few sets, and the hole was always in the groove. Sounds like they made a machining error on yours.

sure makes that Chinese shit look good (sarcasm). Just spent a couple of hours honing them to the shafts. Unfricken believable.

I keep a spare new Harland Sharp 4006B-1 rocker on hand, like John said, the oil groove is wider & deeper on that newer one. The pin hole on the spare is drilled on the edge of the groove, not in the middle. I have an older one I replaced, the pin hole is centered in the groove. Pictures of newer one on top, older on bottom.

I'd be a little leery of having that hole in the groove.  It's going to provide a direct path of pressurized oil to both ends of the rocker, and that could lead to flooding the top end with oil.  Most of the rockers I've seen use the clearance volume between the rocker body and the shaft to supply oil to the pushrod and adjuster.  My SOHC rockers are like that, and so are my old Comp Cam and Isky rockers.  When you pre-oil the engine you will see that a lot of oil comes out of the rocker just from that few thousandths of clearance volume.

Jay, when you say "It's going to provide a direct path of pressurized oil to both ends of the rocker" what do you mean "both ends"? The sides where the shaft and bushing gap is? The only pin hole in the rockers are the oiling hole shown in the picture above? Some reason I thought HS rockers had a pin hole pointing at the roller wheel? How does the roller get oil?

thanks,

The HS rollers get oil from splash/drip. Some others like POP, have a small hole drilled to directly feed oil to the roller. I don't think I've heard of any cases where a roller tip failed on a HS rocker due to this characteristic.

Many of the rockers I've seen have an oil hole to the roller tip, but as Jared says that one is really not necessary.  I think you will be fine with the oil hole where it is.  Pre-oil the engine with the valve covers off, and look for oil at the pushrod end of the rocker.  As long as you see a little bit there, I think you will be fine.

Also, if you don't see oil on some of the rockers, try turning the motor so that the pressure is off the valve spring and check again.  If you have plain holes facing down on the rocker shaft, and the holes don't line up with that groove, the valve spring pressure can put enough upward force on the rocker that the oil flow is blocked.  Once the valve is closed, oil can flow again, and in that situation you will still get plenty of oil.

Jared is correct about splash oiling to the roller.  The pic you posted has the hole in a nice spot.  It intersects the corner of the groove.  The ball end adjuster has no provision to bring oil from the pushrod.  It must spray a little oil on the ball and cup from the hole you pictured.  Proper shaft clearance (I like .0008 to .0012) will oil the bushing and spray the cup without bleeding out in the valve covers.  Shaft clearance is the best way to control top end bleed.  Restricting the supply is good for the bottom end, and if restrictions and shaft clearance are both right, you have the best for both ends of the oiling situation.
