Low Riser / CJ Intake gaskets 1246-S3 or something else
« on: December 14, 2019, 11:28:37 AM »
I know we did Med Riser and the conclusion was MG202

How about the low riser / CJ style port, Felpro 1246-S3 (these are the black ones) or something else like Edelbrock or MR G, can I use the ones that come in the FS8554PT set?

I only want to do this once and while its out of the truck... It is an aluminum manifold if it matters...

When using the blue gaskets how is everyone blocking the exhaust cross over...?

Just a little pice of metal, I assume AL can will melt?

I have used sheet metal, ground aluminum plugs, but many of the new intakes don’t have a crossover.

Traced the hole in the gasket over a fat spot in a used gasket, cut it out and secured with copper RTV. They are staying put. Lots of used blue gaskets, that is steel in the middle isn't it? Cast iron factory manifolds.

Mine is has the cross over.

I guess I will cut out a piece of the old gasket or a pice of some old metal (could probably hammer an old oil filter can flat) or maybe I have a set of Victors in my stash, gotta look I think I used the LR/CJ ones though.

I wouldn't worry about making plugs, some time on a bench grinder with some Home Depot alum bar you can get them to press in the intake, not the head.  That being said, just realized that you shouldn't need low risers, you have a D2 head with an RPM right?  Those are all med riser port centerline unless someone ground the floor past a med riser size.

A Mr Gasket 202A will likely seal better and is blocked already, If you really wanted to help it, then I would put something behind it, not plug the head side, harder to do and it could enter a valve pocket.

It is an FPP (Probably a rebranded Blue Thunder) Cobra Jet replica AL manifold with Ported C8AE-H. Yes I know it is a gross mismatch, but it is what I have ATM... Unless I just want to throw an “S” manifold on it.

Guess I could just pick up a set of gaskets, sounds like less work than hammering out AL plugs  ;D Which brings me back to the original question....  ;D

how did you do it before?

That being said I like spending a couple hours fitting plugs, time is money but done until you yank them out

Mr Gasket 206 is the lowriser number if you decide to go gasket, I haven’t used the S3 Felpro but really have no interest after seeing the inconsistent sealant quality for so many years on so many different engines with Printoseal, not only FE

Hmm I do have some in my stash, unfortunately they are messed up from being in the stash ☹️.

Moving to plan b again ... which is blocking the passage wit blue gaskets...
