https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/04/business/electric-car-job-threat/index.html

"The problem for the workers is clear: The electric motors that will power those new vehicles have far fewer moving parts than traditional internal combustion engines and the transmissions that go with them.

Building a traditional powertrain is the most labor-intensive part of building a car. Building an electric car requires about 30% less labor than building a traditional gasoline powered car with its engine, fuel system, transmission and other complex parts, according to estimates from Ford (F) and other industry experts."

Also less likely to burn up when the LiPo batteries explode...

I’d be looking to move into the charging infrastructure sector if I was in vehicle manufacturing right now, it’s got to be on the verge of exploding in the very near future

I thought I read that by 2022 Volvo and BMW will be all electric. It’s coming, I would have to think that in 10 years more than 50 percent of the cars made by all the manufactures will be electric. Even performance wise, the batteries are getting better just over the last 5 years, what’s it gonna be like in 10 years. They are getting at least 300 miles on a charge and it’s taking less and less time for them to recharge. Yeah they won’t sound like a mustang GT but there already working on them sounding like combustion engines.

Living in Michigan causes me to wonder how far an EV will go on a charge on a zero degree morning in the winter. First the battery needs to be heated all night than you need to heat the interior of the car and defrost the windshield (this is free heat with IC) than windshield wipers and headlights (doesn't get light until 8:30). This aint southern California! Just saying.

This is the natural trend and we have to get used to the idea.

Yes there are drawbacks,  yes the technology is imperfect, but at least there are attempts at trying new technology.

Do I see myself driving an electric vehicle any time soon?  Not really, but I'm not a new car kinda guy, and everything in Georgia is far away.
Can I see this being a huge issue in high pollution cities like NYC, LA, etc?  Sure.  If I lived in a town where everything was 5 miles away, sure, this would be neat.

Evolution involves stepping stones, this is one we will laugh about one day when we are driving our more modern electric (or whatever) cars.

Flux capacitors. Come on, Drew, get with it.  ;D
The cold is a big deal with electrics, like Mike said. Towing a trailer? Forget it; that would cut the range by at least half. Driving cross country is also not happening with electrics, unless you don't mind waiting while your car recharges.

I've always been a person out of time, so I'm glad I won't be alive to see the next generation of vehicles. In fact, I'm glad I won't be alive to see a lot of things in the future.

I was a hater until I actually drove a Tesla. Impressive. Mind changed. The Mustang Mach E should be a blast.

My fiance saw the Mach E "Mustang" and thinks its just great. I might be one of those owners sooner than I anticipated, her current car has 200k miles on it. Her driving style/quantity completely fits the bill. Tell you one thing though....I wont be one of the first owners! My cousin bought one of the first 2020 Explorer ST's to come out, it's been at the dealer more than his house. I'll give it a year or two for the kinks to be worked.

I would guess for those driving, there would be “quick charge” stations. Could charge there.

Or the car could take a specific plug, power company could install plug for car charging etc.

That is the easiest thing to overcome

Well, here in Penisylvania they put a $.30 a gallon tax on gas so we could have better roads and bridges. It all went to the state police and pension funds. None of it ever trickled down to what it was supposed to accomplish. The thought of driving a car that will not contribute anything to those pecker heads in Harrisburg is really appealing. I need an electric car more than I thought. Thanks gdaddy. I never considered that angle.
