If it's automotive, my guess, is that it's a tractor weight, that is bolted to either the front or the sides of a tractor.

Agree. The angle on each long side does look like  a tractor weight loaded in a pan if not bolted to the front of a farm tractor.

Well, it does look like a tractor weight, except I have never seen one with attaching bolt holes that small

The tractor weights I have dealt with were manageable. Guessing this weighs around 150 lbs with no way to lift by hand or hook a chain to it.

Yep, and the bolts are always pretty large- once you got the first one in, you were ready for a break. When I was a kid I used to put those 100lb "suitcase" Weights on the front rack of the Farmalls, and it was much easier than putting on the rack itself

Those holes, look like they are about 5/8". That's a pretty standard size bolt for a tractor weight.

From the dimensions, I would say it weighs between 220 & 250 lb.

You've got to remember that tractors and heavy equipment come in all sizes, not just small (by todays standards) old farm tractors. I think they might have been used on big equipment, which require a couple tons or more of weight. Think gravel pits and monster front loaders. Those things take real weight!

We always used weights on my Dads old Farmalls, and they always had the rounded corners like that, but they were never that big. I have similar chunks of iron/steel that I use to hold down stuff I don't want blown away in a tornado or hurricane, but they have sharp square edges. I have no idea what they were for, but they sure come in handy at times. I kept them in the back of my truck to keep stuff from blowing out. They're toe and finger crushers though, so you always have to be careful moving one! And there's NO picking them up....you scoot or roll them.
