64 Galaxie 390 into 66 Comet
« on: June 04, 2019, 01:13:02 PM »
I am planning on installing a 390 from a 64 Galaxie into a 66 Comet. Will the Galaxie oil pan work or do I need a Fairlane/comet pan?

Thanks!

The 64 Galaxie oil pan will not have the shallow rear section, with the indents for inner tie rod clearance, can`t say for sure it the tie rods will hit for certain on hard turns, but I would guess it could be a problem. A bigger problem will be how you resolve the motor mount problem. A 64 block will only have the narrow 2 bolt motor mount bolt pattern. Stock FE Comet/Fairlane and Mustang motor mount plates are designed for the 1965 and later blocks, that have 4 motor mount bolt holes.
1978 Fairmont,FE 427 with 428 crank, 4 speed Jerico best of 9.972@132.54MPH 1.29 60 foot
1985 Mustang HB 331 SB Ford, 4 speed Jerico, best of 10.29@128 MPH 1.40 60 foot.
1974 F350 race car hauler 390 NP435 4 speed
1959 Ford Meteor 2 dr sedan. 428 Cobra Jet, 4 speed Toploader. 12.54@ 108 MPH

Thanks Rory! I am using the Crites installation kit for the early, pre 64 FEs to resolve the motor mount issue.
