Edelbrock F-427
« on: April 04, 2019, 11:33:41 PM »
Going through the paces of removing the Edelbrock dual quads off the 66 fastback with the CJ in it.Owner changed his mind and I was more than happy to yank it all out.I am putting a old school F-427 on it.I pulled Jays book out and read up on the manifold.Jays write up hinted that a port match was in order so off to the shop to do some measuring...
Jays 2 manifolds had 1.06 x 2.05 ports and no provision for a oil filler.Visible bottle neck near the port exit..
My manifold is unported and has 1.18-1.20 x 2.05 ports and has a provision for a oil tube. Also no signs of a bottle neck.
Going by the pictures the manifolds appears to be the same..

One early, one late, two different foundries,revisions......who knows but certainly 2 different versions of the same manifold...

Mine has the oil fill hole, wider ports and also a hole for the dowel pin at left front.

That's very interesting, I've only measured two different F427s but they've both had the narrower ports.  Really held that manifold back...

The old F-427 is a fine manifold when port matched. The as cast port exit is small.
I very much liked the one I had.

I never measured ports on mine. When I was a kid I cleaned up ports just on the outside edge and even the floor, I didnt know that your not supposed to touch floor. I dont know car was one of the fastest cars in my area in the middle 80s to the early 90s.  The guy with the fasteat car was running 11.40s on the street I was 11.69. There was one other guy with a 427 nova that I never raced but his car was quick. He lost to Freddies car by 2 cars so I was probably in his ballpark. Me and Freddie got on our cars one night from like a 20 mile an hour roll and he was creaping alittle ahead. We didnt go a quarter mile but I dont know if he would of beat me by more that a car or a car and a half. Boy those were the good old days. My manifold didnt have a oil fill tube.
