A couple of questions concerning my upcoming build

I recently purchased a PI intake from a member here, for use on my 416. Greg was a real pleasure to deal with, by the way. I want to run no hole "THUNDERBIRD" valve covers from my original engine. The intake has a rear PCV provision, and a flat spot behind the thermostat for an oil fill tube. My concerns are these: If I have a hole cut for the fill tube, should I also port match to the heads? My combo is a .030 over 410, Crower solid lifter cam #16356 (228 @ .50 .520ish valve lift 114 LSA),C1AE heads with 2.03 valves. I'm not sure the gain from port matching would be worth cutting up a nice old intake. My other question is would the old fill tube breather and rear PCV be sufficient in a street car? I have done quite a bit of reading on PCV systems, but my experience with the 460 in my truck goes against everything I read.

I wouldn't bother port matching. It won't gain you any performance, and like you mentioned, no need to cut on a good factory intake. Most of the testing I've seen, and I think Jays testing always confirmed it, that a slight mismatch from a smaller intake port to a larger head port doesn't hurt anything, and sometimes is even beneficial.

The rear PCV should work fine. I typically don't even run one, but my stuff usually doesn't get short tripped, ran when it's high humidity, and never in the winter. The only time I had an issue was with my '68 Highboy in the winter time. Running one on the rear of the intake will work fine.
