Ram Clutches ?
« on: January 10, 2019, 05:15:04 PM »
Nice out today  I took my new 428 in my '76 high boy for a test run and seat the rings a little.   everything went text book perfect except my clutch won't hold it.   it slips bad and it's almost new.

So in looking I find the CF dual friction which I know will hold it and a Ram  long style that says it will.   I like the dual friction in my Challenger but it's not super user friendly like I'd prefer in a pick up.  also there is some question if a diaphragm will fit in the cast steel bell housing.

Anyone try a Ram clutch and what did you think ?

I have another question on this,  RAM shows an upgrade clutch # 88769HDX  which is an 11" ,    or a standard replacement 12" clutch #  88775.

Do you think the performance 11" would have more hold than the 12" standard clutch ?

No Centerforce stuff.

RAM or McLeod...

That 88769HDX is rated for 450 hp.  It's very streetable, no chatter, no funny business.

If you want something a little more substantial, I'd do an 11" McLeod kit with a 500 series disc.  It will be streetable, no chatter, no funny business....rated for about 500-525 hp.

Thanks, the Ram should be fine then.

That cam you got me is awesome, tons of low end ,   pulls hard and idles smooth as stock.     I don't know what the HP is but for a  4x4 it's impressive even with the clutch slipping.

I see they have even a better holding long style clutch, a 98769 ,  but  it has some type of metallic disc it looks like .  I probably better stay away from that.

Performance clutches always have more holding power than a standard clutch. I got away from the 12" long style in my Shelby and went to the Dual Friction 11". So much smoother and thus far holds the 500 HP FE nicely.
