Clean up of burnt fluids on headers and exhaust?
« on: January 09, 2019, 03:20:23 AM »
I had a power steering hose leak and get on my headers and exhaust.  The Hookers are the chrome ceramic variety. Does anyone have any tricks as in cleaners to get the burnt fluids off the headers and cross over?

Have the same thing only with oil tried everything that wasnt to harsh. Didnt want to ruin the coating any more than it was.

Sounds harsh, but a green scrubby pad will remove most of the oil/grease/fluids residue if you gently rub it while still hot.  I had that issue with my ceramic coated headers on the EMC engine when oil dripped from VC, and the scrubby removed it easily, and didn't remove the finish.  Joe-JDC

I've also used some mild polish, like California Purple Polish to get stains out of cermachrome.

I spray my dragster headers with WD-40 and wipe them down.  Seems to take all the crud off pretty easy after a race.

Well, I found the keys. The ceramic coated Hooker headers cleaned up with Blue Magic and Flitz. The alumacoated steel wasn't that easy. Easy Off oven cleaner worked headers back.
