Crower cam saver lifters
« on: January 02, 2019, 11:26:06 AM »
Does anyone have any real world experience with these lifters?
I will be putting together my 428 this summer and have a new Comp Cams set but was wondering about the new lifters.
Do they really work or is it just hype?
Thanks
Greg

Brent will likely chime in as he uses them too

I would call them the best hydraulic flat tappet lifter out there for FEs right now, for multiple  reasons.

First, it is a real FE lifter, not an SBF, so if you already have pushrods, there is little fear of having the wrong length.  Second, although that spinning slot of oil isn't always in the right place to help the lobe, it is there more often than no slot would be, so it can't hurt, and I haven't seen any indications in oil pressure. Finally, they run nice quiet and although I have only used them on 280-ish lobes, I haven't seen any float when combined with good spring setup

That being said, I wouldn't call them a necessity, but I am pretty impressed with them

That is what I wanted to know. Guess I will order a set today or tomorrow.

Crower will also put EDM holes in the FE dumbbell lifters.  I have bought two sets from them.

Just FYI,

When I do a hydraulic flat tappet, they are the only lifters that I'll use.

Thanks again everyone.
Sorry for all the questions but it has been a few years since I have built an FE. I have been in the 429-460-351C camp for the last 20 years.
It looks like I am about done with parts for the 428 as all I need now to build the engine are the lifters, jayb's electric water pump adp. and I think I am going to upgrade my valve springs etc.
I try to buy my parts ahead of time so I will have every thing on hand when I rebuild an engine so I don't have to stop and forget where I was.
The only hold up now is waiting to get a spot at the machine shop to have it balanced and then it can go together.
Thank for the advice.
