More ring and pinion mating rituals
« on: December 31, 2018, 06:19:32 PM »
Okay,  So one of my ring and pinions has been extensively lightened.  I mean I've never seen anything like it.  Half the bolt holes are machined away.  It has 5 instead of 10.  The backside of the ring is machined so it is concave.  It is super light.

The question is, is it okay to run something like this in a high 10 second street/strip car.  Maybe 3300 lbs and with roughly 560 ft/lbs of torque with a C6 auto?

thanks,

paulie

What would the torque numbers be with low gear and converter multiplying?

Bolt it on to one of these:

Made for roundy rounders. I don't think I would ever try drag racing with a spool like this or a ring gear lightened as much as you mention. JMO

They also sell some super lightened gears: https://www.quickperformance.com/Ford-9-Ring-Pinion-Gear-Set-Scallop-Cut-Extreme-Ultra-Light-Weight_p_20467.html

Maybe if the ring gear bolts were left hand thread?

I don't know.  A lot.  I have a 2.46 first gear.  Converter would likely be around 3000 rpm.

Yeah, I think you are right.  I will try to post a pic later today.  Those super lightened gears are cool.  The 4.11's I have in my 9 inch now are like that.

thanks,
