Far away from FE anything

I have a friend who has what I believe is an '80s 'vette, who's having trouble with the 'Crossfire' induction system that was available for a couple of years back then. Does anyone know about someone who's knowledgeable regarding these induction systems? The throttle bodies themselves have been recently rebuilt, and all the usual stuff gone through, but there's still a significant hesitation evident when trying to change RPMs at an otherwise steady highway cruise state.

Any suggestions as to help will be highly appreciated.

Verify fuel pressure is between 9-13 psi , make sure coolant temp reads correctly with scan tool ( very important ) , make sure TPS has a nice sweep from scan tool , check vacuum sweep at the MAP sensor and maybe smack computer hard with your knuckle and see if it dies or boggs , computers were common failures for GM vehicles all through the 80's

I concur with e philpott and make sure throttle body gasket is good. I had three customers that had that set
up. people uised to raise idle screws and screw up everything. Theres a reason they werent around long.

Neighbor Glen, senior auto mechanic, has a early Camaro ('87 IIRC) with the Crossfire system. Says it was a dog even when new with many failures (computer) and later, as the miles piled up, issues as noted above.

We laugh at GM's worst EFI system ever as my 1988 Fox-bodied 5.0 Stang, with 78K miles, has had zero issues with its Speed Density EFI system while he's had too many issues with his Camaro's system.

Agree with above advice!  Check the TP sensor signal for sure.  Those often used printed resistive ink on the circuit board and it would get worn away over the years.  You'll see jumps in the signal as you sweep if this is the case.

Corvette guys typically don't know squat about how an engine runs, or how to fix them. Yes, there's always exceptions, but that rule is generally true.

Corvette guys are the worst. They used to come in the shop and ask do you know how to work on these. We would always tell them it’s a Camaro with a different body. They didn’t like that. They would also ask if they could watch while you work. Hey I guess we all think we have a special car, there’s happens to be a Chebby.

Fellow at work years back had an original big block, 4spd vette, very nice car.  I worked on it a few times and drove it.  Have to admit it was a blast to drive.  He joined the local Buckeye Corvette club.  UGh, he quick left after learning all the crap you had to do to be/stay a member.  It was ridiculous.

I do remember those crossfire cars and the horror that came with them.

My neighbor with the '87 IROC Z-28 did consider swapping in a later model GM EFI system but even with used parts it was too pricey. He also briefly considered a carb/intake swap but here in Illinois it's technically illegal to do so, antique or not (not OEM). 

I advised him to go for it as a 25 year and + car makes it an antique and is NOT subject to any emissions testing. He's still pondering......
