Any guess on year maybe year range of this F350
« on: October 22, 2018, 02:21:58 PM »
Looks like it's been in the same spot for maybe 3 years or so.  Thinking about stopping and asking about it.  Could be a nice truck, may be a buy if broken.

They came out in '99.  I actually ordered mine in early spring of '98.  I got it like late April/May.  It was the first new Superduty around.  V10/5spd/CC/DRW.

99-03 were 7.3, then the 6.0 came around(run, very fast away).    Can't say when they changed the nose and stuff to the next version?  05? Something like that.
It looks like it has the 7.3 badge on the door?  So 99-03ish model.

Mine was V10, so it had emblem on the front fender.
My '00 was a diesel(all black), so it had the door badge.

Oh the days of ordering new trucks..............a time to never be seen again.

Mine is a 2005 with a 6.0 and I factory ordered it. The 6.0 horror stories are a bit over hyped and while they did/do have problems all are well known and fixable. The upside is you can usually get a nice 6.0 for cheap because of the reputation. Spend the money saved for a "bullet proof" kit and you'll have a great truck.

As for the one pictured, Sitting that long won't be good for anything but it's definitely a 1998-2004. The grill among other things changed in 2005.

I am guessing its a 99 to maybe 2001. It has the same wheels as my 99, and for the first couple of years, the Super Duty did not have a drivers side grab handle on the windshield post, only on the passenger side. I think the drivers side handle came out around 2002.
Battlestar, my 99 F350 was ordered new by a racing buddy in mid 98, in fact, when he ordered it, he had no idea what the new 99 models would look like. He actually tried to order a new 1998 F350, but apparently Ford didn`t make a F350 PU for 1998. In that photo of your 99 when it was brand new, it has orange front park/marker lights, but my truck has clear lights. My truck is a XLT, what was yours? Just curious about the differance in the lights.

We have 4 Super Duty's where I work. One is a 2002 and does not have the drivers side grab handle and has clear parking lights.

Rory, pretty sure both my trucks had the amber side marker on the front.  That picture might be deceiving?  It's an XLT.

I remember all the hub bub about the new "Superduty" and it replacing the OBS.  I really liked my '96, especially with the Vortech on it!  I didn't want to get rid of it, but with my A plan the difference ended up like $75/month payment(my '96 was paid off).  So I ordered the new SD as soon as my local dealer had the information.  Since the leaves were not on the trees yet in the picture the day I picked it up, it was early spring.  I ordered it without a bumper, as I wanted a big drop bumper, which was back ordered since the trucks weren't out yet.

I didn't really want a diesel originally, but in early 2000 they had a deal going on PSD's and I stopped and talked and we struck a deal.  I ordered it with PSD/6spd/4.10 all black XLT.  Since the V10 truck was a "1999", they considered it only one year old when I traded it in(even though I got it in early 1998).  I got good money for it, thus I did the deal.   The PSD was an awesome truck, really enjoyed driving it.  That truck had no cat on it, just a muffler so I straight piped it.  Sounds really good going under overpass pulling my trailer.  In 2001, they upped the HP to 275 and installed cats on the diesels.

I think 2001 was when they came out with with factory driving lights.  My buddy has 2002 with the driving lights.

That helps - I was thinking it looked "1999~2002" ish but not sure.  May just have to go knock on the door.  Around here, never know if a door knock generates a smile or the point of a shotgun.   ;D

Something about it says it is a 2001.

I think it is a 2003 up 6.0 liter. They had the emblem in the same place as a 7.3 but it was mostly red where the 7.3 is mostly black. Hard to tell in the pic but I see more red than black on that emblem.

Looks to me as a 2000 or 2001. The 99's had V8 on front fender, starting in 2002 they had a different headlight (not visible) but wheels were different

Did you get another pic of visible plate number? If so I can get you the VIN and other info

Can you get a build date?

March 2003 = 7.3
April 2003 = 6.0

Update - looks like the truck is functional as it recently moved.  So apparently the guy may not drive it a lot, but parks it in the exact same place every time.  I may still take a look later.

With the all silver door badge it's probably a 01-03. The late 99-2000 trucks had red stripes instead of silver. You can further narrow it down because 01 was the last year for the old style headlight assemblies, in 02 the went to the "jeweled" clear headlight housings.

7.3 PowerStroke is the best work/tow diesel ever put in a pickup. I like them even better than a 12v Cummins, although the 12v are pretty killer. I have several 7.3's and built and raced them for a long time. Pretty bullet proof and make decent power with a few upgrades but are very expensive if you want big power.
