DELETE: Old Sears, Roebuck And Company Craftsman Lawnmower
« on: August 24, 2018, 10:39:37 AM »
Gone within 1 hour and 32 minutes of posting it on Craigslist. They may replace the engine with a Tecumseh but liked the overall condition. Sense Magnesium isn't worth much as scrap and it was loaded in a newer minivan I figured they weren't scrappers.

My pappy always told me ,"if it has more than two moving parts & it says Sears on it, you don't want it".
What goes fast doesn't go fast long'
What goes fast takes your money with it.
So I'm slow & broke, what went wrong?

That has been my experience with newer Craftsman tools. With 20 years of use by the second owner before sitting another 17 years, this machine can't be that bad.

Sears has many places build their stuff(the old "cheapest quote deal").   The engines aren't so much an issue as to what it is bolted to.   Parts are likely unobtanium long ago.  If you are handy, you can make anything for it.  If not, pass on it.

I like my old Cub Cadet's.  Still buy lots of new chassis parts for them all day.  I've been slowly upgrading my two tractors, doing some basic maintenance/rebuilding.  Decks, front axles, now freshening the old Kohler.

I ran into that with an old Homelite mower I mowed my grandparents yard with as a kid. Before I was on-line I tried to find parts for it. A wheel and carburetor come to mind. Finding the carburetor kit was the problem.
