The Mustang is back on the road

I fired up the 427/452 today in my '65 Mustang and was able to take it for a short drive (about 3 miles). A Big, big, BIG difference from what it ran like in my Galaxie in when it was in basically stock form. It is still getting pretty warm in the passenger compartment but I figure that just going to be the nature of the beast: small car, big motor, and black interior.
 As far as DragWeek is concerned I guess I am playing both ends against the middle. I still haven't got my 521 back from the machine shop so I am plugging along on the Mustang and I guess which ever one gets done first I'll take...providing I get at least one ready!

Alan, what all needs to be done to the Mustang to make it DW ready? Hopefully you'll get your engine back real soon. Not sure how long it takes you to put an engine together, but it takes me a while to double and triple check everything, because you can never just assume that everything is correct.

Not sure how long it takes you to put an engine together, but it takes me a while to double and triple check everything, because you can never just assume that everything is correct.

I need to upgrade my fuel system. When I started on this car I wasn't thinking about DW so it only has a 12 gal tank so I need to put a bigger one in and reconfigure my pump and lines. I also need to built a hitch for a trailer and figure out a good way to haul the trailer since I don't want to pull it behind my car trailer. That is the major stuff, there is still a bunch of small and time consuming things to do. Then there is the matter of spare parts. None of my 460 stuff will interchange so I will need to but together another complete setup. I tell you, it is expensive enough doing all this to begin with let alone trying to supply two different engine families. I don't necessarily recommend it.
 It takes me awhile to build a motor also. If I don't get it by this weekend...well I don't know. I'm not the type to put the last bolt in the night before leaving for DW. I like to have time to make sure everything is working.

On the plus side, if you end up taking the FE Mustang, I'll have several spare parts if you should need something (provided I make it with the Galaxie, which so far is looking like I will). I take way more spares than I should, only because FE stuff isn't stocked in any automotive store. Even simple things like 1G alternators aren't generally carried in store anymore.
