rocker set up for a 428cj
« on: May 19, 2018, 02:28:30 PM »
my question is,do i need the comp cams HD roller rockers with the end stands that attach to the head bolts?is that over kill?would i loose power going to a stock type rocker set up the shops on here sell.has there been proven HP gains with them?

my combo is engine is a 428 mostly stock with 10.6 comp, and a comp hyd roller cam with .556 lift, and 230 236 duration at .050,and performer rpm intake.heads are stock cobra jet.car is 68 mustang that is street driven and runs really good.not sure what springs on but shop said they are right for it.it has run to 6000 but cam is done by 5800.i would like to put stock valve covers back on it,but they wont clear the rocker end stands.only the tall cobra style ones that take 3 hours to change plugs.

I would run end stands, but no, you don't need rockers that are retained by head bolts.

Agreed.  Any of the normal bolt on kits - Harland Sharp or T&D - would be fine, as would stock rockers with an end stand kit.

No power lost.  In fact, the factory non-adjustables are really nice with a hydraulic roller camshaft.
