Shipping a vehicle from VA to CA

I'm shipping a vehicle out from VA to CA, it's a daily driver (non-ford). I'm seeing some crazy prices to do it and wanted to inquire here to see if anyone has any suggestions or experience on the matter?

I've just called companies I found on Google thus far.

Shipped a late model sedan from WA to TX last year, it was close to $1000.-  vehicle arrived in good shape.  It was shipped on a conventional car carrier (not enclosed).

I used Passport Transport to ship my 66 Fairlane from Fl. to WV several years ago.
It was around 1K and was enclosed with constant tracking and also updates from the driver in route.
I would definitely use them again.
