Best way to replace water bypass on intake
« on: August 05, 2012, 11:38:54 AM »
8V aluminum intake. I figure I should replace the press in nipple as a precaution, I have the intake off anyway and the nipple looks like its probably the original.
Dearborn Classics sells a press in, Mustangs Unlimited has one that requires tapping the intake 3/8NPT. No mention if they are stainlees(I assume not).
Anybody been down this road? Ever try to fab your own?

Tap it.  I think the one on the left came with a Victor intake and the one on the right was cut from just a short piece of brass pipe from Lowes (I think) that was threaded on the end.

Half a brass pipe nipple and a pipe tap into the manifold was my answer on my last Dove manifold.

Great info thanks. Any idea if the hole is stepped-or how deep to run the tap? My intake is a factory piece..not Dove.

On my 427 since it was a drag car I tapped the hole and plugged it. Never had any trouble. It was easyer   to work with the water pump.
