been thinking of getting one of these   https://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_fe.htm   guys kits to put a ZF5 behind the someday 445 in my 75 250. Gas geared ZF5s have 5.72 syncro first 2.94 2nd and a .76 over. Should be perfect with 4.10s, maybe go 4.30s.

The 4.0 gear T19 came in 83-87 Ford diesel pickups. Bolts right in, same bellhousing pattern, input shaft, tranny mount and driveshaft as a T18/435. Shorter shifter throws, synchro low.  If you haven't driven one to compare then you have no way of knowing what rotten gear ratios you are putting up with and thinking are OK. A Gear Vendors with a 435, using it to split 2nd, 3rd and high gear would be fine but certainly a lot more costly.Check the local Craigslist for a stick tranny from a mid 80's Ford 6.9 Diesel someone is parting out.
Sounds like the 86 6.9 I used to haul hay and tractors around with. It had a 3.55 axle and a 4 speed. I remember gearing down into 2nd often and reving the engine up for turns. I didn't care for it but it was not a hardship. To each their own.

The gas T19 had different gearing, I have a T19 from a 83 or so 2WD 460 F250, I don`t know the exact ratio, but by putting the trans in first and counting revolutions, it appears to be about 5.00 low gear. I bought the T19 to put in my old 74 F350 car hauler, which is a NP 435. Since my 74 typically weighed in at over 10,000 pounds, I would normally start off in 1rst gear unless it was dead level, but 1rst was only good for maybe 15 MPH, 2nd for maybe 25 without revving the 390 to the moon. I did find the granny low 1rst gear rather handy when stuck in bumper to bumper gridlock, like when in a long border line up, I would just let the engine idle in 1rst, and the truck would just crawl at a slow walking pace. I put a new clutch in when I rebuilt the 390 in 1990, almost 30 years later, the 11" clutch is still working fine. I was going to swap the T 19 simply to have a syncro`d and more useable 1rst gear, but I sold the truck over 3 years ago, and never did the swap. If somebody wanted my T19, I would sell it for 100 bucks, but being so heavy, I don`t want to deal with shipping it. But if somebody in BC Canada or Washington State was interested, I could deliver it to Mission Raceway, or Bremerton or Pacific Raceway when I am down for a race.

That's a great deal on your T19 Rory.  I can tell you that they aren't that easy to find and I paid a bit more than that for the one I bought.  If you were closer I'd buy yours just to have a spare!

Bring it to the FE R&R and I'll buy it, Rory. Might be a tight fit to get it in the overhead bin, but I think it'd fit :)

Tom, so the T19 is a bolt in swap? If that's the case, I'd seriously look for one. I thought I remembered a thread on the old forum that listed all the changes that had to be made when swapping the T18, but I can't remember the details. I seem to recall that it was a pretty extensive list of things that had to be changed though.

In my case I was swapping to a T19 from a NP4560 which took a lot of adapting to make work. I just switched it back to all common 70's Ford truck stuff for the T19. I think the difference between the T18 and a NP435 is about the same as difference between a T19 and either one.

I don't know if the T19 swaps in for the NP435 but have one idea I think would be nice to check if towing heavy.  The version of T19 with the 5.11  1st (probably what Rory has) has a 1.79 3rd which makes the gap to 4th even bigger than for the NP435.  One version of the T19 came with a 1.41 3rd.  Swapping that for the 1.79 would make this a nice tranny behind an FE ...low enough 1st for towing (and synchronized) and a smaller gap between 3rd and 4th.  If the gears can't be swapped, then I don't see much benefit going to the T19 for towing heavy...like 5 ton or more.

I am working on the nv4500 from a 1 ton Chevy truck I traded for the gearbox and the input shaft adapter and clutch disc should be under 500 dollars

I wanted one of those until I drove a friends truck with one. Then checked the ratios. For me it's too wide a spread in the critical 30-60mph range. The overdrive is nice though. They are huge and heavy. Several other late model transmissions, stick and auto suffer from huge size and weight. I sold a 5R110 I had, must be near 300lbs with convertor and it is bigger around than a C6 two feet back of the bellhousing area. No way that'd fit in a normal tunnel.

Another I considered, it was offered for free, was a Toyota Tundra six speed. Apparently plenty strong and very nice ratios. Adapting it with the integral bellhousing would be an issue and the fact someone else he told beat me to it.

My F350 race car hauler has a wide ratio C6 and a gear vendors with a 4.10 gear. Nice on the highway at 2,500 rpm on OD.
