Which heads??
« on: January 31, 2018, 08:23:05 AM »
Hi all  I'm stuck at the moment . I have two diffrent casting heads  c6ae, or c1ae they both need seats, couple guides, etc . They will be on a street engine in a 1/2 picky.  I'm using d cup keith black pistons and a 16915 crower cam.

Is there either that will be an advantage for a low rpm torque type engine. This engine will prob never see over 4500-5000

Not much difference, power wise, in that application.  The C6AEs will likely fit your exhaust options better in a truck as they'll fit with the lower port location common to truck headers.

Both sets are out of cars does that make a difference in exhaust port height??

does not matter. common truck headers ie headmans etc are designed to fit c6aer c8aeh d2teaa heads. not c8oen c1aea c4aeg etc. stick with the c6aer.

I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but most truck headers are made for the "low port" exhaust used from 66 and up.  From what I see, most header applications listed say they fit 65-76 F-100s so I guess they assume the majority of trucks will have the low exhaust port.

You're correct that both sets of heads are car applications, but they did change the exhaust port height to help fitment in shock tower cars.
The C6AE has a lip at the top of the exhaust port that matches this lower port height, whereas the C4AE is a taller port that will be tough to seal with headers made for the low port.

I've used C4 heads in both of my last trucks. Both times I used Hedman headers and both times the ports matched perfectly and I never had any issue with a header leak at the head. First truck was a '68 F250 Highboy, second one is a '70 F350. Both times I used their "Heavy Duty" headers that have the thicker steel.
