Here is a post with a couple different weight charts. I have dropped off two FE engines at Fastenal but the reciever paid the tab before hand. A pallet with steel braces for a all iron (except the tail shaft) 352/C.O.M. can weigh over 1,100lbs.

Call 1-800-998-2100 and ask for David in the shipping department.  By far the best rates that I have found for shipping engines and heavy engine parts.  Also they have great customer service.

Fastenal is cheap, but you get what you pay for. They dropped an engine that was shipped to me, and almost dropped it again while I was picking it up, luckily I was able to intervene.

I have never used Fastenal but it looks like they have really good pricing.

Every time I that have used engines direct freight I have called David in the shipping department and waited on the phone while he searches all available freight companies for the lowest possible rate on the day that I would like to ship.  Many times he will search adjacent dates and will come back with something like "if you can wait X number of days I can get you a much lower rate".    Once I agree to a date/rate he emails me the paperwork to put on the crate/pallet and he schedules the pick up at my house.  I don't even have to be there.

Wow, sounds like I'll be calling him tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed with maybe even a lower cost of 200 bucks. (doubt it, but ......)
