Guess the Lincoln Mark VIII ET
« on: September 08, 2017, 08:58:51 PM »
Just for fun if anyone wants, post your guess for the quarter mile ET & MPH of my 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII here. I have raced the car a few times back in 2009 at Brainerd International Raceway, although that was just with the regular street tires that did not hook up at the dragstrip. Brainerd's elevation is 1200'. I also raced the car once in 2012 at Portland International Raceway with the slicks, but that was 1/8 mile. I'm not sure of the elevation at Portland, but probably close to sea level. The car is all stock except for the 26"x 8" slicks, which are required by Hot Rod for Dragweek. Just a hint, I did weigh the car back in 2009 at BIR and it weighed between 3945-3980 lbs. with me in it ( I'm about 200lbs with helmet  ;D ). It likely will be a little heavier than that Sunday & Monday at Dragweek because I took advantage of filling the car with gas before the prices went up last Hurricane, forgetting I wanted a lower fuel level when I hit the track first day. The car has 234,000 miles on it. I have in my notes that the elevation at Cordova, the first track we stop at, is 600', although I don't remember where I got that figure, may or may not be accurate.

I think with the slicks (despite the high mileage), you'll just crack 15.0

My guess is 14.95 @ 90 mph...
A careful study of failure will yield the ingredients for success.

I made one pass today during the Street Machine Eliminator class, the Mark ran 15.220 @ 92.97. Steve P. ( 57 Lima Bean ) Wins best guess on ET, Time Warp closest to MPH I think. I'm going to try and see if I can coax a little more out of it this week. Weight on the Cordova scale was 4035 lbs with me in it. If I can plan my fuel level a little better maybe I can get it under 4000 lbs. I pulled some of my past run data before dragweek and the car had hit 96 mph in the quarter before, but it was a cold day. I've noted it's pretty temperature sensitive before. Our friend BradFord, who should have made a guess, said he looked up some old test results from when the cars were new and found a 15.30 @ 93, pretty darn close.

Is it too late to guess 15.22?
I would have never guessed that. I've seen John Mihovetz go 5's at 250mph with the same engine so adding the extra weight i'd say a 6.40 at 220. Maybe the floor mat is wadded up and the pedal doesn't go all the way?  :P

By the way my Mk VII was 3750 without driver so the MkVIII is the same.

Too late to guess! I'd have said 15.00 anyway.

Maybe.....plan one run at least with a mighty cool engine. Loosen a few accessory belts or take off the P/S belt at least. Pop the air cleaner. Ice the intake manifold.

Well, you know what to do already with 'tricks' but it would be cool to crack a 14.99 eh?
