Fuel system final update...I hope
« on: August 22, 2017, 07:59:13 PM »
Instead of a convoluted mech pump on the road and elect pusher pump at the track setup I decided to do away with my mech pump. I ran a 1/2" line from the tank to a Mallory 140 and a 5/8" line back to the tank using a return style regulator. So now when I am running 7psi it goes down to maybe 6.75-6.6 psi when I stand on it. I will bring a spare pump AND the proper lines & fittings to convert back to a mech pump...you know, just in case.  8)  Hopefully this is the last you guys will hear of this.  ::)

Sounds like you got it whipped, Alan. I gotta say though, I'm a bit bummed. The only chance I had of beating you this year was if you were running out of gas at mid track ;D

Just out of curiosity, how loud is that Mallory pump? Some electrics I've heard are annoyingly loud.

Thanks Doug, I hope it's whipped. I won't get a chance to run it at the track until I get to DW. This pump is really quiet. It was so quiet I didn't think it was pumping anything until I looked at the gauge. It running the return style regulator helps a bunch. I had the same pump on it before deadheading and it was so loud I had to get some isolator stand offs to quiet it down. I didn't need them this time around. I see you stepped up to Super Street this year. That's a smart move. There's about 1/2 the cars in that class.

Hmm, I signed up for Street Race, just like last year. Not sure why it's showing Super Street. My car doesn't really fit that category according to this part in the rules "Vehicles in Super Street must have modifications that prevent them from running in Street Race." My car doesn't have anything that disqualifies it from Street Race.

I'm seeing reports from quite a few people on the Dragweekers Facebook page that are saying they are listed in a different class than they thought they signed up in, or had run in the past. Hemi Joel is listed in Street Machine Eliminator, but he thought he signed up in Hot Rod. I'm wondering if it's just a case of mistakes by whoever put that list together. I guess time will tell, maybe we will see a corrected list in a few days. It wouldn't be Dragweek without some kind of confusion.

I'm not too worried about it since you can change your category on tech day.

I saw Joel's coupe on the Bangshift site. What is it with you Minnesota guys that wait until the last minute? ;)

Thanks for the offer but I am now committed to running an electric pump. I am carrying my Clay Smith mech as a last gasp backup to get me out of a jamb type thing.  :o
