Jay,
With all the irons you have in the fire i was wondering if you ever have time to build customer engines?
How about private consultation, IE building on papper with detailed and specific recommendations  ? A service for a fair fee ?
Much respect for the "big 3" but i have no doubt that there's at least a Dozen and probably more excellent FE engine builders on this (and the other) fourm alone and another handful outside of these places.
The FE fourms are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and this one here is clearly the best. Thanks for all of it and to every one on here for sharing.
Ok, ill go to bed for a few hours now lol. I been up all night so none of this may not make since.

Keith, as a rule I don't build engines for other people.  I don't have the time with all the other things I have going on, I don't generally have the space in my shop to store parts for other engines, etc. etc.  However, my advice is always free, in fact that's what this forum is for.  Just one thing about that, you know what they say about free advice  ;D

If you or anyone else wants to build an engine on paper, some of the things you should be able to specify up front are as follows:

- Horsepower goal
- Torque goal
- Fuel to be used for this engine
- End use (track only, street only, some combination)
- Hood clearance, for example is the engine coming through the hood OK, if not is there a scoop on the car, etc.
- Budget
- Naturally aspirated, nitrous, supercharger, or turbocharger(s)
- Transmission to be used with the engine

There are plenty of other considerations, but knowing the answers to these questions would be a good start.  Put up your requirements, Keith, and I'd be happy to take a shot at a plan.  And I'm sure plenty of other folks would too...

Keith, you should look carefully here (if you haven't already) at all the dyno tests Jay has done. Add in all the similar tests that Barry and Brent have posted either here or on the 'Net FE Forum as they all cover a wide range of builds and most include a complete list of parts.

Agree Bob, that dyno section is very useful.

There's no bad advice if it can be learned from lol.. I was just asking in general, i do ok with my junkyard/dump truck engine's and been happy with what i have done in the past based on what i can afford.  I'm never afraid to ask for advice though, love this place for that. I have checked out many of the dyno sheets and builds. Some pretty awesome stuff here. Once i get done ringing the life outta my old junk builds and can afford to step up to 1000+ hp I'll be sucking up all the info i can.
