Suggestions on axles

I need 35 spline axles for my Comet. The car should run around an 11.50 et. I have a Yukon thru bolt center with a spool that will work with any brand axles but MW. Any reason to buy one brand over another Strange vs Moser? Standard vs Hytuff? Even though this is a bracket car, I am willing to spend a little extra for peace of mind and performance. I appreciate your thoughts and experience. Tha KS Jim

I've run Moser's for 12 years with no issue's.Splines looked perfect as I just had them out last week.

There are plenty of guys that can give better experiences than me, but I've used Strange axles twice over the years and have never had a single issue with them, and they were both 31 spline. Granted, nothing that really tested their limits though. Lots of guys running 31 spline stuff on faster cars than 11.50's, with 4 and 5 speeds, and they seem to be ok. I have seen guys start to have twist issues after several years when they get into the low 10's though. Again, on shifted cars.

I have 35 spline Strange axles in my Fairmont, they have been in since 2000, the year I went from a C6 to the current Jerico 4 speed setup. Never any issues. From 1988 thru 1999, I had 33 spline Strange axles, used with a transbraked C6, I upgraded the rearend when I was making the switch to the 4 speed, as the 33 splines had a slight twist to them.
When I built my 85 Mustang 302 stick for NHRA Stock Eliminator, over 15 years ago, I went with 31 spline Moser spool and axles for the 8.8, as I got a great deal on them. The Stocker engine only ran 12.3s, so not much abuse to the axles, but the last several years I ran the car was with a decent 331 SB Ford, that ran mid-low 10s (best of 10.28 ET), still with a Jerico 4 speed, and the 31 spline axles are still OK. Granted the Mustang was fairly light, about 3000 with me in it, and did not have the torque of a FE.

I've had Moser 31 spline in my Shelby for about 25 years now. I haven't had them out or inspected them in about 15 years, but no issues far as I know. Mostly dragstrip passes with an automatic, 11.50 to 12.00 ET's, spool, but they did go on Dragweek in 2015. I just ordered Strange 35 spline this past winter for my current Cougar project. Doesn't do you any good right now, but Strange & Moser seem to run sales during the off-season, and that's when I bought mine, to take advantage of the package deal. Hit or miss if what they have on sale will be what you need, but thought I'd put it out there. For me Strange had the best 9" deal, but our Mopar member JericoGTX Jeff bought a package from Moser this past winter since they had the better deal on the Mopar stuff he needed.

Hi, I went with Speedway Engineering out of California, there stuff look's  like jewelry they were the only ones that would weld the brake calipers on, witch I though was  weird, and great to deal with. Leny Mason

   I have original '65 A/FX 31 spline axles in my low 11 second '66 Shelby with a Detroit locker  and C4 automatic. Trouble free for the 43 years I've owned it. I certainly would use 35 splines with a stick shift though. 35 spline is the same as a Dana 60 uses and is much stronger than Ford's 31 spline. 40 and 44 spline are needed for 1,000+hp IMHO.

For you guys that have the strange axles, are they the street alloy or there Hytuff racing axle? It probably won't matter for my car as I foot brake my C6 with a 3800 stall converter. I see Quick performance lists bare Moser axles for 317.00. That is less than the Moser site. Jim

Both the 33 & 35 spline Strange axles I have had in the Fairmont have been the race axles. The 31 spline Mosers in my Mustang had C clip grooves, so I assume that they were a street friendly alloy.

all these axle companies make just good stuff anymore as far as I am  concerned.  if you have the extra money I would get your axles gun drilled and free up some weight and rotating weight.  jmo
