He had bought a really cool car .even though it was a Chevy
A 58 Impala  somebody transplanted the drivetrain from
a Chevelle 396 SS in the early 70s. A 402/ fourspeed
positraction rear no P/B no P/S
straight pipes out in front of the rear wheels
Hurst shifter, American racing torquetrust wheels,
Edelbrock Tarantula intake , big Holley DP ,fenderwell
headers Air shocks, the SS396 emblem on the glovebox  8)
No option this or option that with NOS air in the tires
Repainted in the 70s in stock colour untouched since
except for a new stock  interior a few years ago
Just like i remember the BIG BOYS cars from the 70s
I left with a big smile on my face

One of my long time friends (40 years)has a 58 Impala that he bought the same year I bought my 68 (1977)He immediately put a BBC in it and it currently has a EFI aluminum headed 427 in it...All original body and never been hit...
I built the chassis for it and it has a 9" in the back...I am not a Impala guy but I really like the 58's and have logged hundreds of miles in the pass seat...
Currently trying to get the EFI sorted out....His daily driver....a 55 Nomad with a TPI 350,5spd and a disc brake 9"..
Don't care if they are Chevrolets....They are cool and significant cars..
1968 Mustang Fastback...427 MR 5spd (owned since 1977)
1967 Mustang coupe...Trans Am replica
1936 Diamond T 212BD
1990 Grizzly pick-up

What? No pictures? :P

I've always liked the '58s as well, although usually as cruisers. First time I saw one was as a kid when a friend of my Dads stopped over in his, tuck and roll interior, frenched, lowered, shaved/smoothed and black. Looked cool as heck. Then there was the one in American Graffiti which I thought was pretty cool. A really overlooked car considering the '55-'57s get all the publicity. After '58...phht, no.

I had not expected there was anything to take pics of at his place so no camera
What you got there ?  A 327 with six strombergs   Gee is it you Toad in that beautiful car
what a waste of machinery  :D I liked that one too.

I'm no ford fanatic And I always liked the 58 impala  58 Impala, 55 nomad, 37 Coupe and convertible
Is in my opinion the most beautiful Chevy's ever
Was so nice to see this one a little battered paint job, untouched since it was built
had manage to escape a matching number rebuild with probably a 283, pg,skirts,
and a loaded with a combination of options that no one would have ordered in 58
I gave him two 10x15 torque trusts with Chevy boltpattern about 20 years ago
so he said he was going to buy tires for them an mount them now

The 58 Chevy was kinda a strange deal, body was a 1 year only deal, and the first of the X framed Chevys that continued thru 1964. For many years I thought the 58s were really ugly, these days I can appreciate them much more, although I really prefer the "bat wing" 59 cars myself. But then, I`m building a 59 Ford 2 door sedan, and race a Fairmont, so my taste in cars may be considered a bit strange anyhow!! :o
1978 Fairmont,FE 427 with 428 crank, 4 speed Jerico best of 9.972@132.54MPH 1.29 60 foot
1985 Mustang HB 331 SB Ford, 4 speed Jerico, best of 10.29@128 MPH 1.40 60 foot.
1974 F350 race car hauler 390 NP435 4 speed
1959 Ford Meteor 2 dr sedan. 428 Cobra Jet, 4 speed Toploader. 12.54@ 108 MPH

Rory The 58 chevy has always been liked in Sweden
even in the 70s when they were treated like the red
head stepchild in USA.

Gotta like that '58, especially the Impala.  The SS drivetrain swap to BBC was a good idea back in the day, but how about a 348 or 409?  Near my home there is one of those used car consignment lots; they had a driver-quality '58 Biscayne that sat there for the better part of a year, no interest apparently, and gone now.  The '58s just aren't as loved, mainly what you see are the over-restored Impalas with skirts, continental kits and too many gadgets.

I've seen that Nomad on weekdays in the winter in the snow headed up Oak Street towards downtown. Sometimes when people call a car a "daily driver" it is far from it, that Nomad truly is.

The Nomad is currently up in Kamloops getting repaired. It was rear ended by a F-250 and the driver tried to disappear and not report it .Much to the Nomad owners surprise the guys at ICBC said they were familiar with the Nomad and saw it on the road all the time. They told him to take it anywhere he likes and to make sure it is repaired properly. They will cover the cost....
