Is that an old type terminal. You don't know a part number by chance. What year cap or should I say car did it come in. Doesn't that mount with the metal tangs like a stock dist.

That one is a brand new Duraspark.  It costs $42 and every one of them I've gotten have been in very good shape.  Still in need of a recurve, but any distributor you buy will need that.

yes metal tabs to hold the cap on.

Joe just switched to an MSD distributor, so that cap won't work.
Joe, I can't comment because I have a Medium Riser intake, but I know it's close with that intake and the HEI terminals. Very close. Just a guess, but I don't see how it would fit. The standard terminal cap, #8437, will gain you a little bit of clearance over the HEI, but not much.

Edit to say that I forgot you said you were using the stock air cleaner. Do you mean the stock Mustang air cleaner? If so, then you can disregard everything I said. I use the Ford aluminum air cleaner and don't know how much difference in height there is.

Doug I use the original air cleaner from a 63 galaxies 2x4. I will look into that cap with the regular old type terminals or is that what you were saying to disregard

Just checked out that cap looks like that would be shorter as long as that will mount to an 8594 dizzy.
Even if it's a 1/4 of an inch in my case it might matter, just wondering the original carb studs that are in manifold do those unscrew and maybe I can put a small spacer unders carbs to gain a little clearance

I use a Mallory Unilte, with a medium riser 2x4 intake.  No issues.

Maybe I just need a medium riser intake, and I will probably pick up a little HP.

you can also buy air cleaner spacers from jegs from 1/2 inch and up if you have hood clearance , plastic around 4.00 each , aluminum just under 10.00 ... my male terminal was close to the air cleaner base but my quick change spring housing prevented the base from sitting flat on the carb for Medium 2x4 with MSD which is why I ordered a couple 1/2 aluminum spacers instead of tripling up the gaskets

Yes, the 8437 cap with standard terminals will gain you a LITTLE bit, but don't know if it'll be enough. I can't remember the carb pad height on a LR. A MR intake with factory 2x4 air cleaner will fit under your hood (that's what I have), so you could easily space the air cleaner up to get your clearance. That'd be much cheaper than changing to a MR intake.

Just a quick glance at some internet pictures, it looks like there's enough room on an original '67 Shelby GT500, which uses the LR intake. Here's a shot of the Shelby engine...

Compare that to my MR intake with HEI style terminals. Mine is really close...

Compare that to an older shot with the standard style cap, it looks like you'll gain about a 1/2"...
