Probably a dumb idea that is already in file 13 but here goes.I have been considering your adjustable timing set and cover. What if a guy were to incorporate some sort of ball valve or some type of shut off valve into your water pump adapters? He could then remove the pump and timing access cover to change timing without losing all your top end coolant. I'm not sure how to do it, just like the concept. Jim

I don't believe you'd be able to get the pump out and back in while leaving the spacers in place. I believe that's what you're referring to? Even with the O-ring seals, I don't think it's do-able.
I had thought about how to have easy access to the timing gear without having to mess with a water pump, and the only way I could think of was to use ports coming out of the block that go to an inline pump. I'm not real hip on that idea for a couple reasons; 1 being I don't know of anyone who runs an inline pump on the street, which would be one of my requirements, and 2 being it would have to be super dependable, as in capable of running over a thousand miles without issues.

I agree with Doug, BUT, what if I made spacers that would fit between the block and the shorter, SOHC water pump adapters, and put the valves in that?  Could work, although you've still got water coming from the lower radiator hose that could get out when you disconnected the pump.  I think for as often as you are in there changing cam timing, it might be a bunch of complications with minimal upside...

I didn't really think it all the way through I guess. As far as inline pumps, Ford uses them on the Fusion/MKZ hybrids but I don't know their flow rating. These cool both the engine and electrical drive assembly as there is no engine driven pump. Jim

Has anyone made a diagram or have specks on where to drill the front of the heads for coolant passages ? Or is it just a good careful guess ?

If the old EDC heads with core plugs in the ends are in the correct position, I can get measurements. I've got 2 sets of them.
