Light`s
« on: February 18, 2017, 03:06:56 PM »
What for are these lights, not a big deal but been wondering it ever since i bought the car.First comes to mind cop car but nothing else hints that way,of course other cop/sheriff stuff might been taken away.
car is pretty unmolested other than tuckn roll upholstery. Its 65 Galaxie 2dr. ht. plain jane othervise,428 engine and 3 speed manual,no power steering or power brakes.I am pretty sure it`s been this way last 30-40 years.
I am in Finland so knowledge about these is about zero.
Any info or ques would be help

Not factory. A lot of people have done a lot of weird stuff to a lot of cars over the years. My guess is that somebody thought it "looked cool", and stuck them in .

Definitely not factory. If somebody  just put them on later just for the cool i don`t get it but then again i don`t usually get most of the cool things.
Years ago i was coming home at night time with trailer and of course way over the speed limit. Two bikes came and stuck behind trailer after few kilometers blue light came on behind the other bikes fairing.Pulled car on the side of the road and started kissing goodbyes to my driving licence. As i got the car stopped both bikes passed me front wheels in the air.I`ll bet they were laughing,at that time that wasn`t "COOL" in my mind.

;D Yesterday I was  over the speedlimit. And suddenly saw
a cop car with the flashing blue lights in the rearwievmirror
closing in fast. So i thought uhh oohh that will cost me...
and i haven't done the annular tec inspection for ...several
years. So a walk home was in my near future.
I started to pull over and they passed me like a homesic rocket
and turned of the highway toward some gas stations

Isn't it illegal for anything but an emergency vehicle to have blue flashing lights?

Well that's a clearance light for a truck. normally they are red or yellow, but you could buy them in blue, green or clear. Usually we would put them in the interior, under the dash or seats, that way when you went parking with your girl you could have some  low lighting for ambience & to help you see to get her undressed. They were always referred to as being "whore lights". If you put them behind your grill you were a redneck. Just move them inside the car & everything will be good.

Now when you say clearance light i`m here feeling stupid, just haven`t seen those in blue or just forgotten them.
I ain`t no disco stud or a 70`s pimp so no blue or red light`s inside the car, whoever may be in the passenger side i hope she can handle it in the moonlight.

Seem's I remember lights in the grill as a midsixties kid. They were supposed to let you know your car was running.

actually, with the lights behind the grill, your car was one of a kind & all your buddies knew who you were while cruising at night. Unfortunately, so did the police. It's just a 70's fad thing, serves no purpose at all except to agitate small town police. I'd leave em in there, makes you a rebel.
