Cam selection pt2

Keep looking at different cams and I think I'm going to go with the CompCam 270S. 406, flat top pistons, c2se heads, 3x2s with cast iron headers, toploader & 3:50 gear.

  Adv duration.       Duration @ 50.      Lobe sep.      lift
     270                         224.                   110.         .540

That is until I ran across the cam card on the cam in my yblock.

   Adv.  duration.      Duration @50.          Lobe sep.      lift
      264/268.               234/238.                 110.          .528/.536

How would this run in the FE. Any advantages or drawbacks. Worth the expense.

This car sounds good and runs good with this cam. Car is a 57 Ford 292 domed pistons, ported and shaved heads, 3x2s with header type ex. manifolds 5sp & 3:50 rear end.

I got my last camshaft from Oregon Cam Grinding.  The owner (Ken) has a lot of experience racing FE engines, and is a Ford guy.  I bought his cam that is very similar to a Comp Cams Magnum 280H, and I'm very happy with it, and the customer service there.  I recommend giving him a call.  Tell him what you have for parts, and what you want your vehicle to do, he will discuss some options.  He is a regrinder, so he will take your old cams as cores, which helps keep the prices down.  Give hima call and see what he Says!  http://www.oregoncamshaft.com/

If your going for a spirited occasional driver, I would put something bigger in there if it were mine... depends what you plan to do with the car/engine. IMO judging by your parts list your combo could easily deal with some more cam. 406 with those head castings and flat top Pistons sounds like your going to be running some race gas in it to keep it happy. I'd also want a split duration cam with your combo...have fun :)

I'd go hydraulic for cruise/show car.  My Comp 280H has a nice idle, strong power, 15" vacuum at idle, no valve adjustments...
